Gilmore and Ewing Triumph at Gold Coast Pro
Australian surfer Steph Gilmore, aged 38, won the women's Gold Coast Pro title on Monday afternoon at Snapper Rocks, defeating Luana Silva with a score of 17.33. This marks Gilmore's seventh Gold Coast Pro victory, achieved 21 years after her first win there.
Gilmore had taken a two-year break from competition before returning to the World Surf League (WSL) tour this year.
In the men's event, Australian surfer Ethan Ewing won the title against Japanese-Australian Connor O'Leary, winning by less than half a point. This is Ewing's third career Championship Tour (CT) victory and his first in his home state of Queensland.
Rankings Impact
Gilmore's win moves her to seventh in the women's WSL rankings. Molly Picklum, currently fourth, is the highest-ranked Australian woman.
Silva qualified for the GWM Aussie Treble by reaching the final, having previously performed well at Margaret River and Bells Beach.
