A United Airlines flight from Venice, Italy, clipped a delivery lorry as it approached Newark Liberty International Airport.
The aircraft landed safely with no reported injuries among the 231 passengers and crew. The lorry driver sustained minor injuries.
The NTSB is investigating and has ordered United to provide cockpit voice and flight data recorders. The airline's maintenance team is assessing damage to the aircraft.
