Confirmation

Activision has confirmed that the next installment in the Call of Duty series will not be developed for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. This was stated in response to rumors circulating online that the game was being tested on PS4.

Official Statement

The official Call of Duty X account posted on May 4, 2026: "Not sure where this one started, but it’s not true. The next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4."

Background

This marks the first time since Call of Duty: Ghosts that the franchise skips a console generation. Over the past 13 years, 13 Call of Duty titles were released on PS4 and Xbox One, including last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

The next Call of Duty game has not been officially announced but is expected to launch later in 2026. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently stated that new Call of Duty games will no longer be included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, coinciding with a price reduction for the service.
