Tarique Rahman, 60, has returned to Bangladesh after 17 years. He had been residing in London since 2008. His arrival in the country precedes the upcoming general elections.
Mr. Rahman is the son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and leads the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The BNP is preparing to contest the general elections scheduled for the new year.
Should the BNP emerge as the party with the most seats, Tarique Rahman is positioned to become the country's next leader.
