Deutsche Post AG Officially Renamed DHL Group After Shareholder Vote

Shareholders of Deutsche Post AG voted to legally change the company's name to DHL Group at the annual general meeting. The new name is expected to be registered in the commercial register in the second half of the year.

A Legacy of Transformation

Deutsche Post, the successor to the state-owned Deutsche Bundespost, was privatized in the 1990s. It acquired US logistics firm DHL in 2002. DHL itself is an acronym honoring its founders: Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom, and Robert Lynn.

By the Numbers

  • Approximately one-fifth of the company’s revenue currently comes from traditional German mail and parcel operations.
  • The vast majority of revenue is generated by global divisions operating under the DHL brand, including express delivery, freight transport, and supply chain logistics.

Executive Insight

"Over the past decades, our company has developed from the former Deutsche Bundespost into a globally leading logistics group," said CEO Tobias Meyer.

A Gradual Rebranding

  • In 2024, the company rebranded externally as DHL Group without changing its legal structure.
  • Former CEO Frank Appel had delayed a legal name change to avoid unsettling German staff.
  • The name Deutsche Post AG will be retained for a new subsidiary that will handle the German mail and parcel business.
