Germany States Russia Responsible for 2024 Cyber-Attack and Disinformation
Germany has publicly stated that Russia was responsible for a cyber-attack targeting air traffic control and attempted electoral interference. Following these statements, the Russian ambassador was summoned by German officials.
Allegations of Cyber-Attack and Electoral Interference
A spokesperson for the German foreign ministry identified Russian military intelligence as the entity behind a "cyber-attack against German air traffic control in August 2024". The spokesperson further stated that Russia attempted to influence the country's federal election, which occurred in February of the current year.
Planned Response
Germany, in coordination with its European partners, plans to implement countermeasures. The spokesperson indicated these actions are intended to address Russia's "hybrid actions".
Russia has not issued an immediate response to these statements.
