Google Keep lock screen notes feature appears in latest beta

View source

Google Keep version 5.26.181.01.90 contains hidden settings referencing lock screen note functionality. The feature is not yet functional.

Unreleased Feature Spotted

Android Authority has discovered settings within Google Keep that point to a new lock screen note functionality. However, the feature does not currently work when enabled in settings.

A Repeated Effort

This isn't the first time Google has explored this idea. Similar development was observed in late 2023, but it was never released to the public.

How to Access (and the "Coming Soon" Wall)

The feature was found to be accessible on Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1, but only after enabling the Notes role for Keep in developer options. Without this specific setup, users are met with a "Coming soon" message.

Lock Screen Note Duration Settings

The settings allow users to choose how long a lock screen note remains active. The options include:

  • New note each time
  • Return to same note for: 5 minutes, 2 hours, full day, or always

Glimpsing the Code

Code strings discovered within the app include:

  • "New! Lock screen notes with Google Keep"
  • "Instantly capture your thoughts right on your lock screen. Notes created here are automatically saved to Keep."

No Release Date

At this time, Google has not announced any release timeline for the lock screen note feature.
