James Murdoch's investment company, Lupa Systems, is holding discussions to acquire New York magazine and Vox Media's podcast network for $300 million or more, according to two sources with knowledge of the talks. It is unclear if there are active talks with other bidders.

Vox Media has been exploring a sale of all or parts of the company amid a challenging environment for digital media.

New York magazine's portfolio includes its print edition and websites such as The Cut, Vulture and Intelligencer. Vox's podcast network produces programs including 'Pivot' and 'Today, Explained.'

For Murdoch, the acquisition could expand his media holdings, which already include stakes in the Tribeca Film Festival and a major Indian entertainment producer.
