A 20-year-old man died after becoming trapped in a car that swerved into water at Audley Weir in Sydney's Royal National Park.
The incident occurred around 1:15 am.
Victims and Drivers
- The deceased passenger has been identified as Muhammad Kashif, a 20-year-old electrical engineering student and cricketer from Casula.
- The driver of the blue Audi, also 20, freed himself and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. He has since been released and is in custody at Sutherland Police Station.
- An 18-year-old driver of a second vehicle, a silver Mercedes, is speaking with police and the car has been seized. A passenger from that vehicle is voluntarily providing information at the police station.
Investigation
Police stated there does not appear to have been contact between the two vehicles. Sergeant Steven Planinic said charges may be pending for both drivers.
Recovery
Following a multi-agency search, divers located the submerged car and the body of the passenger.
