"The Fast and the Furious" to roar into Cannes with a Midnight Screening, while Guillermo del Toro's fantasy classic returns for a 20th anniversary bow.
CANNES, FRANCE – The Cannes Film Festival has officially confirmed a Midnight Screening of the original The Fast and the Furious movie, set for Wednesday, May 13, at the Grand Lumière Theatre of the Palais des Festivals.
The screening will be attended by franchise stars Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, producer Neal H. Moritz, and Meadow Walker, the daughter of the late Paul Walker.
This event is part of a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Fast & Furious franchise, which first released on June 22, 2001. While Universal and Cannes have not officially commented on a larger event, sources indicate an assemblage of talent is planned.
The festival's chief, Thierry Frémaux, has a history of incorporating Hollywood elements into the festival, though he was unable to secure a major studio launch this year.
The Fast & Furious franchise has grossed $7.47 billion globally across 11 films.
In a separate tribute, Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth will receive a 20th anniversary screening in the Cannes Classics section. The screening is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 at 2:30 PM in the Debussy Theater, with del Toro in attendance.
