IO Interactive Confirms Project Fantasy Progress After Partner Exit

IO Interactive, the studio best known for the Hitman series, has confirmed that its next major original title, codenamed Project Fantasy, remains on track.

The project is described as a fantasy-themed action game, marking a significant genre shift for the Danish developer.

"Project Fantasy is in a very healthy place."

IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has stated that the game is progressing well, despite a recent setback involving the departure of a key publishing partner. The partner that withdrew funding has not been officially named, but industry speculation widely points to Xbox.

New Funding Secured

Despite the loss of this partnership, Abrak confirmed that IO Interactive has already secured new funding to continue development. This ensures that the project will not face delays or cancellations due to the change in financial backing.

Development Focus and Timeline

It is important to note that Project Fantasy remains in early development. The vast majority of IO Interactive's resources and workforce are currently concentrated on their upcoming James Bond title, officially titled 007 First Light.

  • Project Fantasy Status: Early development, new funding secured.
  • Studio Priority: Launching 007 First Light.

007 First Light is scheduled to launch later this month, which will likely allow the studio to shift more attention to Project Fantasy in the near future.
