Confrontation at Albury Campaign Event
Liberal Senator James Paterson was involved in a tense exchange with a One Nation volunteer during a campaign event in Albury. The incident revolved around a Coalition corflute criticizing One Nation candidate David Farley.
Senator Paterson began recording the confrontation with his phone, which the volunteer allegedly grabbed from his hand.
Responses and Reactions
One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson quickly apologized to Senator Paterson, stating the volunteer was dismissed and sent home immediately. She expressed regret and offered assistance if a police investigation were pursued.
However, One Nation Chief of Staff James Ashby later retracted the apology. He claimed Senator Paterson was "rage baiting" and "needs a kick up the backside," alleging the Senator provoked the incident. Ashby added that the volunteer would be welcome back at polling booths.
Senator Paterson stated he would not press charges.
One Nation candidate David Farley reaffirmed his commitment to respectful behavior in a social media post.
The Disputed Corflute
The confrontation stemmed from a Coalition corflute highlighting Mr. Farley's past affiliation with the Labor Party and social media posts endorsing a Teal candidate.
