QRL CEO Ben Ikin to Step Down
Ben Ikin has resigned from his role as CEO of the Queensland Rugby League (QRL), effective end of July.
The decision reportedly caught the QRL off guard, as the organization is just 20 days out from the 2026 State of Origin series opener. While Ikin had been linked to a position at the Perth Bears, he has stated he is leaving the game entirely.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working at the QRL. I’ve met so many great people and created some incredible memories, I leave feeling very grateful.”
“Ben’s leadership has placed the QRL in a very strong position in the sporting landscape and our on-going strategies and programs are well advanced.”
Ikin previously worked in football operations at the Brisbane Broncos from 2021 to 2023. During his tenure at the QRL, playing numbers in Queensland increased by 12% over the last year.
