Deadly Gas Station Shooting in Dallas Deemed Self-Defense
An incident on Sunday at a gas station off Highway 66 near Dallas, Texas, resulted in the death of Jose Ramirez, 30.
According to the Garland Police Department, Ramirez—a Mexican national living in the United States without legal authorization—crashed into two vehicles and then attempted to carjack multiple vehicles at the gas station.
He approached a white Impala in a parking lot where a father was seated in the driver's seat with his family inside. Ramirez demanded the father exit the vehicle.
The Confrontation
Surveillance footage shows a physical struggle between the two men. The father then drew a firearm and fired multiple rounds at Ramirez. Ramirez was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
Aftermath and Investigation
The father remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and surrendered his weapon. Police stated that the father's actions are being treated as self-defense and that he is not expected to face charges.
Lt. Pedro Barineau of the Garland Police Department characterized the incident as a self-defense case.
The Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have been contacted for additional information.
