A 16-year-old girl died after falling from a cliff swing in Sichuan, China, when her safety rope detached.
Incident
On May 3, a 16-year-old identified as Ms. Liu died after falling from a cliff swing at Maliuyan Adventure Park in Huaying, Sichuan, China. The safety rope came loose as she jumped. She fell 168 meters, sustained severe injuries, and died on the way to the hospital.
Investigation
Local authorities classified the incident as a production safety responsibility accident and launched an investigation. The park was closed from May 4 to May 10.
Background
The cliff swing, operated by Chongqing Adventure Camp, opened about two months prior. The entry fee was approximately $80, with an additional $3 fee for the swing.
