Brown's Frustration with Celtics? Split Opinions Emerge
Tracy McGrady claims Jaylen Brown is "frustrated" with the Celtics organization, while team president Brad Stevens insists Brown has expressed only positivity.
Boston, MA — A disconnect has emerged between an NBA legend's assessment and the front office's account of Jaylen Brown's state of mind.
McGrady: "Frustration lies within the organization"
Speaking on NBC Sports' "Cousins" podcast, Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady — who has served as a mentor for Brown — suggested the All-Star guard is unhappy with the Boston Celtics.
"I think his frustration lies deeply within the organizations and other things that we don't really have the details to," McGrady said.
McGrady pointed to Brown's increased leadership and career-high numbers in points, rebounds, and assists this season as potential sources of tension, rather than satisfaction.
Stevens: "He has not expressed those frustrations to me"
Celtics president Brad Stevens offered a starkly different account. "I talked to Jaylen Monday... and was nothing but positive. He has not expressed those frustrations to me," Stevens said.
Brown himself called this season his favorite, despite the Celtics' first-round playoff exit.
Contract Status
Brown is under contract for three more seasons before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2029:
- 2026-27: $58.5M
- 2027-28: $62.8M
- 2028-29: $67.1M
The conflicting narratives leave a key question unanswered: Is Brown frustrated, or is he simply continuing to elevate his game in Boston?
