Perplexity has released a new macOS application that provides access to its Personal Computer AI agent feature for all Mac users.
The feature, initially rolled out in April and previously limited to Max subscribers on a waitlist, is now available to all Pro and Max subscribers through the new desktop app.
Availability and Subscription Requirements
The new Mac app can be downloaded directly from Perplexity's website. Access to the Personal Computer feature requires either a Pro or Max subscription. Perplexity stated that the previous Mac app will remain available temporarily but is expected to be phased out in the coming weeks.
Feature Functionality
The Personal Computer feature is designed to handle multi-step workflows on the user's device. According to Perplexity, the feature operates on any Mac and can perform tasks across local files, native Mac applications, the web, and Perplexity's secure servers.
Key reported capabilities include:
- Working with local files, native Mac apps, and web operations
- Orchestrating tools and files, utilizing over 400 connectors
- Leveraging personal context for task completion
- Operating web-based tools without direct connectors when paired with Perplexity's Comet web browser
- Remote access from iPhone to initiate tasks or approve requests
User Interface
The new application provides an all-native Mac experience and includes a Command Bar accessible via a universal keyboard shortcut, specifically by pressing both Command keys.
Suggested Use Cases
Perplexity has suggested the tool can be used for tasks such as comparing files across different applications or pulling notes from one application to create a draft in another.
