The Golden Globes has released new guidelines regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in submissions, along with updated rules for podcast, non-English language, and independent film categories.
Key Details
- The awards ceremony will air live on January 10 on CBS and Paramount+, with Nikki Glazer returning as host.
- Submissions open June 1 and close October 30; nominations announced December 7; final ballots due December 18.
AI Guidelines
- Use of AI does not automatically disqualify a work, provided human creative direction remains primary.
- Submissions will be evaluated on the extent of human authorship; AI may support but not replace core human contributions.
- The Golden Globes Eligibility Committee may request additional information to assess AI's role; failure to provide may result in ineligibility.
- Performances must be primarily from the credited performer; substantially AI-generated performances are ineligible.
- AI tools that enhance a human-driven performance are allowed, provided authorized by the performer.
- Performances using unauthorized digital likeness, voice replication, or biometric data are ineligible.
- Works remain eligible if core creative contributions (direction, writing, composition, animation) originate primarily from humans.
- AI may serve a supporting role but cannot substitute for human authorship.
Podcast Category
- Eligible podcasts will be drawn from a curated 'Top 30 Podcasts' list determined by Luminate, based on key metrics during the eligibility period (January 1 – September 30).
Non-English Language and Independent Films
- Such films may be submitted for individual Best Performance categories without submitting for Best Motion Picture, provided all other eligibility requirements are met.
