Company Statements
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed the price increases during a financial results briefing. He stated that maintaining business viability would be difficult if the company continued to absorb increased costs over a long period. He noted that the new pricing does not fully account for all cost increases.
Furukawa added that the company will prepare a robust software lineup to enhance the Switch 2 ownership value and will work to overcome the barrier created by the price increase. Nintendo apologized to customers and stakeholders for the impact and requested understanding.
Sales Context
Global sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 reached 19.86 million units in fiscal year 2025 (ending March 2026). Nintendo expects fiscal year 2026 sales to decline by 16.9% to 16.5 million units.
Furukawa stated that first-year sales reached an unprecedented level due to supply chain strengthening, and that second-year demand remains firm, indicating smooth adoption of the Switch 2.
He added that despite the expected sales volume drop, profitability levels are likely to remain similar to the previous fiscal year.
