"Halo Next" is in development, according to a new report detailing internal projects and the creative vision for the franchise's future.
A New Mainline Campaign is in the Works
A report from Mr. Rebs indicates that Halo Studios is actively developing a new mainline Halo campaign, internally referred to as "Halo Next." The project was specifically referenced in a recent job listing for a Narrative Design Director, signaling formal development on the story-driven title.
Staten’s Unmade Vision: "Campaign Next"
The report also sheds light on the vision of former Halo writer Joseph Staten. Staten was reportedly working on a sequel to Halo Infinite, codenamed "Campaign Next," which was in development prior to the 2023 layoffs. Interestingly, Staten’s original plan allegedly did not include the Flood as a central threat.
Setting the Stage: The Endless and the Flood
The report connects the dots between Halo Infinite’s ending and the current narrative direction. The game’s conclusion introduced the Endless as the franchise's next major threat. Furthermore, the comic Halo: Edge of Dawn, which takes place after the events of Infinite, involves the Flood, potentially serving as a bridge to set up the next game.
