NBC Picks Up Four Pilots for 2026-27 Season
NBC has selected four of its eight pilots to move forward as series for the 2026-27 broadcast season. The network has ordered the dramas The Rockford Files and Line of Fire, along with the comedies Sunset P.I. and Newlyweds.
Series Ordered
The Rockford Files
A contemporary reboot of the 1970s series.
- Stars David Boreanaz as James Rockford, a private investigator recently exonerated of a crime.

Line of Fire
A drama about a family of law enforcement agents from the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service, and DOJ who must solve a deadly conspiracy.
- Stars Peter Krause, Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O'Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett.
- Written by Josh Safran.

Sunset P.I.
A single-camera comedy following a Los Angeles private eye.
- Stars Jake Johnson, Jane Levy, Langston Kerman, Mary Shalaby, and Keith David.
- Written by Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici.
- Produced by Universal Television.
Newlyweds
A multi-camera comedy about a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor who marry impulsively later in life.
- Stars Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, with Jamie Lee Curtis as a recurring guest star.
- Written by Gail Lerner.
- Produced by Universal Television in association with Lionsgate.
Pilots Not Picked Up
NBC produced eight pilots (five dramas, three comedies) during the January-May 2025 pilot season. Four were not ordered to series:
- Key Witness, a drama starring Emily Deschanel, is being shopped to other networks.
- What the Dead Know, a drama starring Taylor Schilling, is being considered for retooling.
- Jill & Ginger, a comedy starring Katey Sagal and Jane Lynch, was not picked up.
- Puzzled, a lighter drama starring Damon Wayans Jr., was also not picked up.
Production and Employment
- The eight pilots created approximately 4,000 jobs across cast, crew, and production teams in the U.S.
- Three pilots were shot in Los Angeles, three in New York, and two in Atlanta.
Statement from NBC Leadership
"We landed on shows that we think can truly break through."
Pearlena Igbokwe, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, Peacock Scripted and Television Studios, described the pilot slate as "exceptional." She also noted that the selection process was competitive and that scheduling needs influenced some decisions.
