One-off $100 Fuel Support Payment to Benefit ~2 Million Western Australians from July 1, 2026

The Western Australian government has announced a one-off $100 fuel support payment for approximately two million eligible residents, set to begin on July 1, 2026. This measure is part of the state's 2026-27 budget and is designed as a cost-of-living relief. However, nearly 25,000 individuals will be ineligible due to having a suspended, cancelled, or expired driver's licence.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, an individual must hold a valid Western Australian driver's licence. This includes the following licence types:

  • Full driver's licence
  • Learner's permit
  • Provisional permit
  • Extraordinary licence
  • Motorcycle licence
  • Heavy vehicle licence

Drivers of electric vehicles with a valid licence are also eligible. The payment is available once per person. Anyone whose licence is currently suspended or cancelled is not eligible.

Payment and Application Process

The $100 will be deposited directly into the applicant's bank account, with no requirement that it be spent on fuel.

The primary method for claiming the payment is via the ServiceWA mobile app, which the government states is the fastest way to access the funds. To use the app, new users must download it and create an account using the federal government's myID app for Digital ID verification. The offer will be accessible within the app after July 1.

For those who cannot or do not wish to use the app, alternative methods will be available. According to the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure, specific details—including a paper option—have not yet been released. Currently, approximately 500,000 Western Australians already have the ServiceWA app, having previously used it to access the Student Assistance Payment.

Additional Budget Measure: Student Assistance Payment

The government also announced the return of the WA Student Assistance Payment as part of the same budget. Key details include:

  • Eligible recipients: Families with students from kindergarten to Year 12 enrolled in WA public and non-government schools. This also includes certain homeschool students, mature-age students studying towards the WA Certificate of Education (WACE), foster carers, and eligible international full-fee-paying students.
  • Payment amounts:
    • $150 per kindergarten or primary school student
    • $250 per secondary school student
  • Claim date: Claims open on July 20, 2026.
  • Claim method: Via the ServiceWA app. Parents will need their child's WA student number (WASN), found on school reports, NAPLAN results, or some SmartRider cards.

State Budget Context

The fuel support and student assistance payments are cost-of-living measures included in the 2026-27 state budget. This is the third budget presented by Premier Roger Cook and Treasurer Rita Saffioti.

The budget records a $3.5 billion surplus, supported by $9.3 billion in GST revenue. State debt is forecast at $34.5 billion by June 30, which is $4 billion lower than previous projections.
