Tesla Recalls 173 Cybertruck RWD Long Range Vehicles Over Brake Defect
Tesla is recalling 173 Cybertruck Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Long Range vehicles due to a defect that may cause brake rotor stud holes to crack, potentially leading to wheel stud separation from the wheel hub.
Cause of the Defect
According to Tesla, the defect is linked to the use of an incorrect grease on the lug nuts. This grease was intended to reduce friction but was not performing as designed. The resulting friction can cause vibrations over time, which may crack the brake rotor stud holes under certain driving conditions. The recall affects vehicles equipped with specific batches of lug nuts and 18-inch wheels manufactured on particular dates.
Tesla has identified three warranty claims that may be related to this issue. The company has stated it is unaware of any collisions, fatalities, or injuries resulting from the defect.
Remedy
Tesla will replace the front and rear brake rotors, wheel hubs, and lug nuts on all affected vehicles at no cost to owners. The recall was reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Recall Context
This recall is the 11th issued for the Cybertruck. It follows a previous recall related to an adhesive issue with a trim panel.
The company has stated it is unaware of any collisions, fatalities, or injuries resulting from the defect.
