Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Sydney's southwest; driver charged

An 81-year-old pedestrian has died after being struck by a car on Hughes Street in Cabramatta, Sydney.

The incident occurred at around 4pm on Friday. The vehicle, an MG ZS, left the road and hit the man as he walked on the footpath.

Paramedics treated him at the scene, but he could not be saved.

The 51-year-old driver was uninjured. He was taken to hospital for mandatory testing and later charged with negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Liverpool Local Court in June.
