A Wall Street Journal report details a secret Israeli base in the Iraqi desert, built to support airstrikes during the war against Iran.

Base Construction and Purpose

Israel constructed a secret military base in a remote part of the Iraqi desert to support an airstrike during the war against Iran, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The outpost was built shortly before Operation Roaring Lion began in February. It housed Israeli Air Force special forces and served as a logistics facility. IDF troops were stationed there to rescue pilots shot down over enemy territory.

Incident with Iraqi Troops

On March 4, a local shepherd observed unusual activity, including helicopter flights, and informed the Iraqi military. The IDF nearly launched airstrikes against Iraqi troops who nearly discovered the base. One Iraqi soldier was killed. A US official stated that American forces were not involved.
