Boy Rescued After Being Trapped Under Train at North Melbourne Station

A 13-year-old boy from St Aloysius College in North Melbourne was rescued on Monday afternoon after becoming trapped under a train at North Melbourne Railway Station. The student, a Year 7 student, fell from the platform and became trapped under a train carriage.

Incident and Rescue

The incident occurred around 4:00 pm on platform 6. Fire Rescue Victoria personnel used hydraulic jacks to lift the train and extricate the student over the course of approximately one hour. The rescue operation lasted between 45 minutes and one hour.

Multiple emergency services responded, including Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police, and up to eight paramedics from Ambulance Victoria.

Medical Response

The student sustained serious injuries to his leg and lower body. He was transported to the Royal Children's Hospital under emergency conditions. Ambulance Victoria paramedic Alex Hemsley stated that the extrication process was lengthy and that first responders provided a high level of care during a traumatic situation. Support was offered to all emergency personnel involved at the scene.

St Aloysius College principal Mary Farah sent letters to families confirming the incident. Farah stated that the school's priority is providing support to the family and keeping the school community informed. Families were directed to mental health support resources.
