Toni Maticevski Returns to Australian Fashion Week After a Decade

After a decade away, designer Toni Maticevski is staging his first Australian Fashion Week show in Sydney, marking a deliberate shift back to his creative roots.

"I felt a disconnect. The experience in Paris lacked joy—it was time to reconnect with why I started designing."

Maticevski, who runs his Melbourne studio, has been a defining force in sculptural evening wear since launching his label in 1998. His designs have been worn by a constellation of A-listers, including Taylor Swift, Teyana Taylor, and Heidi Klum. In 2016, he received the prestigious Australian Laureate Award, cementing his reputation as a master of dramatic, architectural silhouettes.

A period of reflection prompted his return to Sydney. After showing in Paris in 2019, Maticevski felt the experience had lost its spark. He now cites a desire to reconnect with creativity and the experimental energy of Sydney's fashion scene as the driving force behind his runway comeback.

The show will be the first time in a decade that Maticevski presents in his home country's premier fashion event, signaling a renewed focus on the local industry and a return to the joy of experimentation.
