RPCS3 Enforces Strict Ban on Undisclosed AI-Generated Code

The open-source PS3 emulator RPCS3 has updated its policies regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in code submissions. The project maintainers will now ban users who submit AI-generated code without disclosing its origin.

New Disclosure Rules for AI Contributions

The policy, detailed in the project's GitHub readme, requires that pull requests opened by AI agents or automated tools include a disclosure stating which parts were AI-generated and what human testing or review was performed. Pull requests omitting this disclosure may be closed without review.

Frustration with "AI Slop"

The RPCS3 team publicly expressed frustration with low-quality AI-generated code submissions, describing them as "AI slop" and stating that such submissions often do not work. They emphasized that programmers who understand the problem can write the same code without AI, and they advised against submitting code that the submitter does not understand.

Consequences for Non-Compliance

The team also stated they will block users who submit AI-generated code without disclosure. This move underscores a growing tension in open-source communities between leveraging AI tools for productivity and maintaining code quality and accountability.
