The U.S. military has announced the deaths of two U.S. soldiers and one U.S. civilian interpreter in Syria. The casualties resulted from an ambush carried out by an individual identified as an Islamic State militant.
Three additional U.S. service members sustained injuries during the attack. The assailant was subsequently engaged and killed.
The identities of the deceased are being withheld for a 24-hour period, pending notification of their next of kin.
Following the incident, U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a statement regarding actions against U.S. personnel.
