Coleman Back in Full Swing as Lions Prepare for Geelong Rematch
Keidean Coleman has returned to form after two injury-plagued seasons, playing every game for the Brisbane Lions in 2026 as they prepare for a top-four showdown with Geelong.
"Individually I'm just trying to do my part in the team and playing my role."
After missing the 2024 Grand Final due to an ACL rupture and managing only one game in 2025 because of knee and quad issues, Coleman has now played all nine matches in the current season. Averaging 18.5 disposals, the defender admits his return was initially shaky.
"I was nervous with the body and a bit rusty," Coleman said, but noted his confidence has grown as the team has won six of its last seven games.
The Big Match: Lions v Cats
The Brisbane Lions (6-3) will face the Geelong Cats (6-3) at the Gabba on Thursday night in a rematch of the 2025 Grand Final, which Brisbane won by 47 points.
"Geelong are a very good team... So we know tomorrow night will be tough, and we've got to bring our A-game." — Keidean Coleman
The winner will strengthen their position inside the top four. Geelong enters the contest in strong form, having defeated Collingwood by 54 points last weekend.
Brisbane is expected to welcome back Jarrod Berry and Darcy Gardiner, while Geelong may return Mark Blicavs.
Honouring Heritage
Beyond his on-field return, Coleman has also made an impact off the field. He designed the Lions' Indigenous jersey for Sir Doug Nicholls Round, drawing inspiration from his move from the Northern Territory to Brisbane at age nine or ten, and acknowledging the ongoing support of his aunties.
