Kioxia Unveils XG10: A PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSD for High-Performance Clients
Kioxia has announced the XG10, a PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSD designed for high-performance client systems. The drive succeeds the PCIe 4.0 XG8 model, marking a significant step forward in consumer storage performance.
Specifications & Performance
The XG10 is available in capacities of 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB, utilizing TLC (3 bits/cell) flash memory.
- Performance: Up to 2 million random read IOPS and 1.6 million random write IOPS. Sequential speeds reach up to 14 GB/s read and 12 GB/s write.
- NAND Generation: The 512 GB and 1 TB versions use 162-layer BiCS 6 NAND, while the 2 TB and 4 TB versions utilize newer 218-layer BiCS 8 NAND.
- Missing Details: Endurance and latency figures have not yet been provided.
Kioxia claims the XG10 delivers up to 2x sequential read, over 2x sequential write, ~122% random read, and ~158% random write performance improvements over its predecessor. However, when ranked by sequential read speeds among PCIe 5.0 M.2 drives, the XG10 is currently the eighth fastest as of May 2026.
Target Use Cases & Availability
The XG10 is intended for high-performance client systems, including professional applications, private AI training and inference, content creation, and immersive gaming.
- Sampling: Now available to PC OEMs.
- Consumer Shipments: Expected from Q2 2026.
- Showcase: Will be featured at Dell Technologies World (May 18–21, Las Vegas).
Related Product & Official Statement
Alongside the XG10, Kioxia also recently announced the BG8, a DRAM-less PCIe 5.0 SSD with lower performance: sequential reads up to 10.3 GB/s, writes up to 10 GB/s, and random performance of 1.4M/1.3M IOPS.
"The XG10 delivers enhanced performance for content creators, gamers, and professionals with demanding workloads." — Maulik Sompura, senior staff director at Kioxia America.
