Nextpad++ Mac Port Launches, Renamed After Trademark Dispute

View source

A native Mac port of the legendary text editor has arrived—built without emulation, but not without controversy.

Andrey Letov has released a Mac port of the open-source Windows text editor Notepad++, initially named "Notepad++ for Mac," but renamed to Nextpad++ after a trademark dispute with the original project's maintainer.

The application is built using Objective-C++ on top of Scintilla and Cocoa, aiming to provide a genuinely native Mac experience without any emulation layer. The developer has acknowledged using multi-agent AI development workflows to expedite the port, which began on March 10, 2025, with version 1.0 shipping just weeks later.
