NASA Astronauts Enjoy Fresh Produce in Orbit After Cygnus Delivery

On April 19, 2026, NASA astronauts Jack Hathaway, Jessica Meir, and Chris Williams, alongside ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot, were photographed enjoying food in the microgravity environment aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

The fresh food—including oranges, apples, onions, and peppers—was delivered by Northrop Grumman's Cygnus XL cargo spacecraft. This shipment marks a welcome change from the standard prepackaged meals typically available to the crew.

Beyond fresh produce, the Cygnus XL delivered over 2,300 pounds of critical research hardware and science experiments. These include studies on blood stem cells aimed at developing treatments for cancers and blood disorders, as well as research focused on protecting astronaut gut health during long-duration spaceflight.

Additional equipment brought up to the station includes an advanced exercise system from ESA, new eye-imaging hardware, and oxygen and nitrogen tanks required for recharging spacesuits during upcoming spacewalks.
