Google Tests Cross-Platform Passkey Transfer on Android
A new feature, discovered via an APK teardown, would allow users to import and export passkeys between password managers on Android.
Google is testing a feature that allows users to transfer passkeys between password managers on Android, according to an APK teardown by Android Authority. The interface, activated by the publication, shows new options in Google Password Manager: “Import passwords & passkeys” and “Export passwords & passkeys.”
During testing, tapping “Import passwords & passkeys” prompts the user to select a password manager (e.g., Bitwarden) that currently stores passkeys. The user is then taken to that app to transfer passwords, passkeys, and other items to Google Password Manager.
A standardized framework. The feature relies on the Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP), supported by Google, Apple, and Samsung. Apple already supports passkey transfer in iOS 26 and macOS 26.
Google has not announced a public release date for the feature on Android. The transfer mechanism was discovered through code references and enabled via internal changes; it is not yet available to users.
