Final Fantasy XI's free trial is expanding significantly, removing its time limit and raising the level cap from 50 to 75.
Square Enix announced a major expansion of the free trial for Final Fantasy XI, its long-running MMORPG, during a 24th anniversary livestream.
Key Changes
The free trial will no longer have a time limit, allowing for unlimited play. The level cap has also been raised from 50 to 75.
The level cap was not raised to 99 to prevent free access to too much content.
Remaining Limitations
Several restrictions will remain in place: a gil cap, trading restrictions, no tells or shouts, no ability to invite others, and access only to the base game with no expansions.
Background
The update was detailed by Director Yoji Fujito in a Reddit post. The expanded free trial aims to make the game more accessible. Additionally, an anniversary video was released on the Japanese Square Enix YouTube channel.
