Headline: Apple’s Next Move: ‘Suggested Genmoji’ Coming to iOS 27
Subheadline: A new feature aims to make the Genmoji tool more intuitive by drawing on your photos and common phrases.
According to the Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman, Apple is developing a feature called Suggested Genmoji for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. This initiative is designed to increase adoption of the Genmoji tool, which originally debuted in iOS 18.2 as part of the Apple Intelligence rollout.
How It Works
Suggested Genmoji will generate emoji suggestions based on the user's photos and commonly typed phrases.
The feature will be fully optional. Users can disable it via a toggle located in the keyboard settings, ensuring control remains in the hands of the user.
Background & Context
Apple previously expanded Genmoji in iOS 26, introducing deeper customization and the ability to mix two emojis. However, with the upcoming iteration, the company is focusing on proactive suggestions rather than just reactive creation.
It is currently unspecified whether Genmoji will continue to rely solely on on-device models in iOS 27, leaving the door open for potential cloud-based enhancements in the future.
