"A computer error activated the 'Death of a Monarch' procedure, which prompted a period of silence..."

London — Radio Caroline, a UK radio station, issued an apology on Wednesday after mistakenly reporting that King Charles III had died.

The error occurred on Tuesday while the King was visiting Northern Ireland. Station manager Peter Moore stated that a computer error activated the "Death of a Monarch" procedure, which prompted a period of silence before the station restored programming and issued an on-air apology.

Radio Caroline apologized to the King and listeners for any distress caused.

On the day of the incident, King Charles and Queen Camilla were in Belfast, Northern Ireland, attending cultural events, visiting a distillery, and meeting with local officials.

The King, who was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024, has been responding well to treatment and recently visited the US and addressed the UK Parliament.
