IBM Launches Anderon, a Dedicated Quantum Chip Foundry in New York

IBM has announced the launch of Anderon, a standalone quantum chip foundry headquartered in Albany, New York. The company stated it would invest $1 billion into the venture, alongside contributing intellectual property, assets, and a skilled workforce.
Anderon will operate as a 300-millimeter quantum wafer foundry, manufacturing quantum chips for IBM and other customers.
Federal Support and Industry Investment
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced a $2 billion package to support the quantum computing industry. IBM was the largest recipient, receiving a proposed $1 billion grant. Smaller grants were awarded to Rigetti Computing, D-Wave Quantum, and Infleqtion.
Industry Implications
Analyst Patrick Moorhead of Moor Insights commented on X that IBM is "turning its captive quantum fab into an industry fab," positioning Anderon as potentially "America's first foundry solely for quantum manufacturing."
