Mayor Mamdani Honors Service Members at Intrepid Memorial Day Ceremony

"Freedom was won by sacrifice."

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani delivered remarks aboard the historic aircraft carrier museum USS Intrepid on Memorial Day, paying tribute to fallen service members, Gold Star families, veterans, and active-duty troops.

A Call for Greater Veteran Support

In his address, Mamdani emphasized the nation's duty to remember the true cost of liberty. He noted that many veterans in New York City currently face food insecurity, homelessness, and social isolation.

The mayor stated that the city "cannot simply accept" these conditions and urged New York to remain "a beacon of liberty for all."

A Pledge to Serve

Mamdani described it as a privilege to serve those who have served the nation. He pledged to use the trust and power placed in him to ensure veterans and military families receive the services and support they need.

The ceremony took place aboard the Intrepid, a historic aircraft carrier museum that serves as a fitting backdrop for honoring the nation's heroes.
