Mango Heir Steps Down After Being Named Suspect in Father’s Death
BARCELONA, SPAIN — Jonathan Andic, 45, has temporarily stepped down from his role as executive vice president of Mango's holding company, following his formal designation as a suspect in the death of his father, Isak Andic, the founder of the global fashion retailer.
Jonathan Andic was arrested in Barcelona last week, 17 months after Isak Andic fell over 100 meters during a hike in mountains north of the city. Jonathan was the only witness.
A Spanish court named him a suspect, citing sufficient evidence that the death may not have been accidental and that he played an “active and premeditated” role.
Family Tragedy Turns to Investigation
Isak Andic, the billionaire founder of Mango, died in December 2023 while hiking with his son in the Montserrat mountains. The 71-year-old fell from a cliff path, a tragedy initially reported as a tragic accident. However, the investigation has since taken a dramatic turn.
Judge Raquel Nieto Galvan's writ noted a financial grudge, including requests for inheritance while Isak was alive, and contradictory statements to police.
Jonathan Andic has not been charged. He has denied the allegations, stating that a distorted public narrative has created a perception of guilt unrelated to reality. He expressed his love for his father and acknowledged difficult family times.
Company Backs Executive
The company's board issued a statement expressing its full support for Jonathan and confidence that the legal proceedings will resolve favorably.

The case has sent shockwaves through the fashion industry, with Mango being one of Europe’s largest clothing retailers. Jonathan Andic’s temporary resignation is intended to allow him to focus on his legal defense.
