Halo: Campaign Evolved Reportedly Outsourced Extensively, New Details Emerge

Key Findings from New Report

"A lot of outsourcing was used to create Campaign Evolved, even for core programming and design, so much so that it's not really an in-studio project."

A new report from Halo insider Rebs Gaming reveals that Halo: Campaign Evolved, the Unreal Engine 5 remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, has been developed largely by external studios. Halo Studios itself has primarily overseen the project while outsourcing extended to core programming and design.

Development Details

Abstraction, a subsidiary of Virtuos, contributed to level and technical design for the remake. The level "The Library" and other monotonous sections will receive adjustments as part of the overhaul.

New Features: Campaign Remix

A "Campaign Remix" feature will offer dozens of gameplay modifiers (Skulls), including:

  • A third-person mode
  • The option to add Brutes to the campaign

New Weapons

Three new weapons have been confirmed:

  • SMG
  • Spiker
  • Brute Plasma Rifle

These join the Energy Sword, Fuel Rod Cannon, Sentinel Beam, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle. One more weapon remains unannounced.

Release Information

The game is expected to release this year on Xbox Series X|S, PC, Xbox Game Pass, and PS5. A potential release date of July 28 has been reported.
