Dashcam footage appears to show a couple attempting to intervene during a shooting incident in Bondi Beach, leading to their deaths. Boris Gurman, 69, and his wife Sofia Gurman, 61, were identified as the individuals involved in the confrontation.
The couple's family released a statement indicating that Mr. and Mrs. Gurman attempted to protect others. The video footage depicts Mr. Gurman engaging with an individual, identified as an alleged gunman, and disarming him. Both individuals then fell to the road. Mr. Gurman subsequently rose and appeared to strike the individual with the weapon. The alleged gunman is then believed to have obtained a different weapon, which was used to fatally shoot the Gurmans.

The Gurmans were the first two fatalities reported in Sunday's attack, according to information from the Sydney Morning Herald. The incident took place during an event marking the first day of Hanukkah and resulted in at least 15 confirmed deaths.
In a family statement, Boris Gurman was described as a retired mechanic. Sofia Gurman worked at Australia Post. The couple, residents of Bondi, had been married for 34 years and were scheduled to observe their 35th wedding anniversary in January.
