View source

Halide Mark III, a major update to the pro camera app for iPhone, has been released. The update introduces three key photography upgrades.

Halide Mark III is available today. Free upgrade for Halide Mark II customers.

Halide Looks

The app now includes Halide Looks, which are physically accurate alternative processes combined with a film simulation engine. Optional HDR is available.

Five looks are available at launch:

  • Valencia: Designed for landscapes and cityscapes, with thick contrast, deep saturation, and solid color separation.
  • Rembrandt: A portrait look with thick contrast in mid-tones to emphasize bone structure and lighting.
  • Nova: Suited for landscapes and cityscapes, featuring tight contrast and smooth peachy highlights.
  • Zephyr: A subtle look with filmic contrast, rich skin tones and foliage.
  • Chrome Noir: A panchromatic black and white look with medium contrast.

Photo Lab

A new photo editor called Photo Lab is included. It allows editing RAW files captured with Halide and, as a beta feature, RAW files from Canon, Sony, Nikon, Leica, Fujifilm, and Hasselblad cameras.

  • Quick Edit section lets users audition looks, adjust exposure, and toggle HDR/film simulations.
  • Additional adjustments include framing, color balance, and more.

Camera UI Redesign

Composition tools are centralized, offering aspect ratio choices: 35mm (3:2), medium format (1:1), pano (65:24), and a dynamic Instagram ratio.

  • Composition overlays include rule of thirds, uniform grid, golden ratio, and rabatment of the rectangle.
  • The previous Mark II camera layout remains available as an option.
