WEHI-China Network Launches Major Research Symposia Series

"This initiative aims to develop foundations for discovery through collaboration, mutual learning, and training of young scientists."
— Professor Ken Smith, WEHI Director

Key Details

The WEHI-China Health Research Network will host a series of hybrid research symposia across four major cities over the next four years. The events are scheduled for Hong Kong, Hangzhou, Beijing, and Melbourne, with the final symposium concluding in 2029.

The initiative targets three core research areas: clinical immunology, global health, and drug discovery. In addition to the symposia, the network will establish shared research training opportunities for emerging scientists, fostering the next generation of biomedical researchers.

Background

WEHI has maintained collaborative relationships with Chinese research institutions for over 30 years. This new network formalizes and expands these long-standing partnerships, creating a structured framework for deeper scientific exchange.

Statements

Professor Ken Smith, Director of WEHI, emphasized that the program's goal is to build a strong foundation for scientific progress through international cooperation, mutual education, and dedicated investment in young talent.
