A fire at a hotel in Delhi's Malviya Nagar neighbourhood has resulted in 21 deaths and over 40 injuries, according to police. The building housed a restaurant on the ground floor and a bed and breakfast hotel above.

Rescue Efforts

Witnesses reported that some individuals jumped from the building to escape the flames. Residents placed mattresses from a nearby store to break the fall. More than 40 people were rescued and taken to hospitals, with eight in critical condition.

Official Response

Police stated that those responsible for safety norm violations will be arrested. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and announced financial compensation for victims' families. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
