Fatal Bus Crash on Joondalup Drive; Separate Hospital Collision Reported
A Transperth bus crashed into a tree on Joondalup Drive in Wanneroo, Western Australia, on Thursday, November 7, 2024, resulting in one death and multiple injuries. Earlier the same day, a separate vehicle crashed into a hospital.
Incident Timeline and Details
At approximately 11:00 AM, a Transperth route 390 bus was traveling west on Joondalup Drive when it left the roadway. According to police, the driver lost control for reasons that have not been determined. The bus mounted the median strip, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided with a large tree.
Eight St John WA crews and special operations paramedics responded to the scene.
Casualties
- A 61-year-old male passenger was taken to Joondalup Health Campus and later transferred to Royal Perth Hospital, where he died on Friday morning.
- A 59-year-old female passenger was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries. She remains in serious condition.
- The bus driver, a 56-year-old man, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for medical treatment.
- Five other passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at Joondalup Health Campus. A 26-year-old man seated at the back of the bus has been discharged.
Scene and Investigation
The front of the bus sustained significant damage. Police and forensics officers remained at the scene on Thursday. The Major Crash division of WA Police is investigating the cause of the crash.
Joondalup Drive between Burns Beach Road and Wanneroo Road was closed following the crash.
Police are requesting any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.

On the same day at approximately 10:10 AM, a grey Nissan Tiida sedan struck a 73-year-old male pedestrian before hitting the outside wall of a treatment ward at St John of God Hospital in Murdoch. There were no injuries to persons inside the ward.
The pedestrian was taken to Royal Perth Hospital in serious but stable condition. The 83-year-old male driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries. The private emergency department at St John of God Hospital was temporarily closed.
