Los Angeles, California – Nick Reiner, 32, is scheduled to face murder charges in connection with the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.
The couple was discovered deceased in their home on Sunday, having sustained multiple stab wounds.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced on Tuesday that Mr. Reiner will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder. These charges include a special circumstance of multiple murders, which could lead to an enhanced sentence if a conviction is obtained. Mr. Hochman further stated that the accusation specifies the use of a "dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife."
A decision regarding whether to seek the death penalty has not yet been finalized.
Mr. Reiner is currently undergoing medical evaluation by prison officials. He is anticipated to appear in court for an arraignment hearing after receiving medical clearance, potentially later on Tuesday. During this hearing, he will be formally charged and will be able to enter a plea.
