Broncos Rising Star Tom Duffy Close to Inking Two-Year Extension
Young gun Tom Duffy is reportedly on the verge of committing his future to the Brisbane Broncos, with a two-year extension expected to keep him at the club until 2028.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a key prospect for the Broncos. While the contract has yet to be formally signed, negotiations between his management and the club are said to be at an advanced stage. Duffy has featured in three first-grade games for Brisbane this season.
A Key Role This Weekend
Duffy is set to start at five-eighth (No. 6 jersey) alongside veteran halfback Adam Reynolds in Saturday's clash against the Gold Coast Titans. This move comes after Ezra Mam was shifted to the interchange bench.
Vocal Support from the Club
Broncos coach Michael Maguire has been full of praise for the youngster's development.
“I have a really high opinion of Tommy and we want to keep him here... I’ve been really impressed with what Tom has done since joining us.”
Teammate Ben Hunt echoed that sentiment, highlighting Duffy’s immediate impact.
“Right from his first game at the club, he’s been outstanding... I think he’s got a bright future.”
The Road Ahead
Looking toward next season, Duffy could find himself in a competitive battle for the halfback role. Following Adam Reynolds' anticipated retirement, the position will be contested by veteran Ben Hunt and incoming recruit Jonah Pezet (who signed a three-year deal from 2027, though he is currently battling form and injury issues at Parramatta).
The reigning premier Broncos are currently in a slump, having lost four consecutive matches and sitting 11th on the NRL ladder. They will be desperate for a win when they face the Titans on Saturday at 7:35pm AEST.
