McLaren’s Monaco weekend hits an early snag as an electrical fault sidelines Lando Norris during FP2.

Lando Norris was forced to stop on track during the second practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix due to an electrical fault, cutting short what was already shaping up to be a difficult day for the reigning champion.

The issue occurred at the exit of the Nouvelle Chicane, causing the car to shut down completely. Norris was unable to set a representative lap time, finishing the session in 19th place overall.

"The car simply turned off, so we need to investigate..."

This setback comes as McLaren introduces its largest upgrade package since Miami, with six new components fitted to the MCL40 for this weekend. Among the most notable changes is a radical new rear wing winglet design.

Rob Marshall, McLaren’s chief technical officer, confirmed the team is moving quickly to resolve the problem: "Lando's session was unfortunately cut short by an electrical fault which caused the car to shut down. The team is working hard to diagnose the root cause."

Despite winning the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix and going on to claim the world championship, Norris was candid about the car’s current pace: "We're clearly off the pace and need to find time."
