Incident Details
According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 AM on a residential property on Banksia Road (also referred to as Banksia Avenue). Four men, described as wearing black clothing and face coverings, forcibly gained entry by kicking in the front door. The home's security alarm was triggered by the forced entry.
The intruders were armed with bladed weapons, including machetes. Upon entering, they confronted the 23-year-old victim, who had exited his bedroom following the alarm, and attacked him. The assault resulted in the severing of the victim's left hand.
Sequence of Events
Police stated that the victim's father, who was in his 40s, later emerged from the main bedroom. The intruders forced him back into the room, which contained a safe. They demanded cash and stole a large sum of money before fleeing the scene east on Banksia Road in a dark-colored SUV.
Occupants and Injuries
The occupants of the home were a family of five: a man and a woman in their 40s, and three sons aged 23, 19, and 16.
The 23-year-old male sustained severe injuries to his left arm. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to the hospital in stable condition. Police later reported that he had undergone surgery. The other four family members were present during the incident but were uninjured.
